Jamie Patterson competes for Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2012 Man of the Year

Dear Friends,

I am excited to announce that I have accepted the challenge to compete in The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) 2012 Man & Woman of the Year campaign this spring!

Man & Woman of the Year is a fundraising competition among a select group of individuals in the community who run in honor of a special Boy or Girl of the Year, local leukemia survivors. Candidates are judged solely on a philanthropic basis and the individuals who raise the most funds during the ten-week campaign period will be awarded the title of Man and Woman of the Year. The competition will start on March 29, 2012 and will culminate with a Grand Finale event on June 16, 2012.

I am not allowed to do any fundraising (collect money) until March 29th, but I want to start getting the word out as soon as possible so you can make your plans to join me in the fight against blood cancers! There will be opportunities to support me with corporate sponsorships, personal contributions and even in-kind donations of auction items. I hope you will plan to help me save lives by earmarking funds in your company’s 2012 corporate giving budget and sharing this exciting news with everyone you know who wants to make a difference.

Every dollar I raise supports The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families. To date LLS has funded more than $814 million in blood cancer research leading to a doubling and tripling of survival rates in the last 60 years. This year alone they will fund more than $74 million worldwide, including $6.1 million locally at Duke University and UNC Chapel Hill.

My goal is to have fun reaching out to everyone I know to raise awareness and life-saving funds for LLS to continue their important work. I hope you will join me!

Purple Champion Hospitality Group set to host annual Shoe Box Gala

The Purple Champion Hospitality Group will be hosting their annual Shoebox Gala on December 10, 2011 at Duke University's North Pavilion.

The annual event is held in conjunction with The Durham Parks & Recreation Department to provide toiletries, toys, and other necessities for less fortunate children.
